Unit 5: Where we are in place and time
Topic: Mayas, Aztecs and Incas
Central
idea: Evidence of past civilizations can be used to make connections to present
day societies.
Lines of
Inquiry:

- Connections between past and present have implications for the future of society.
- Processes involved in collecting, analyzing and validating evidence, allow us to connect and reflect about the past and present.
The three most dominant
and advanced civilizations that developed in the Americas prior to the arrival
of the Europeans were the Aztecs, the Maya, and the Inca. Representing longstanding traditions of complex
society in Mesoamerica (Mexico and northwestern Central America) and the Andean
region of South America, these cultures reached high levels of urban
sophistication in the centuries before the arrival of Spanish armies.
